When you’re putting together a wardrobe, regardless of the season, there are a few basics that are absolutely essential. A white shirt, winter coat and leather boots all feature pretty high on the list but perhaps the most fundamental part of any wardrobe is denim. Denim is the master of all disguises. During the day denim is cool, laid-back, easy-breezy. At night it morphs into sexy and vampy with the addition of a stiletto. In work it balances out a blazer so you look less ‘David Cameron’ and more ‘Carine Roitfeld’. It can be red, blue, yellow, black, stone-washed, bleached, elasticated, waxed, skinny, bootcut, cropped,¬†flared…the list goes on and the possibilites are endless. Granted it hasn’t always been a fashion hit, the 90’s ‘baggy denim’ trend still gives me nightmares, denim dungarees leave me feeling somewhat cold and don’t even get me started on patchwork denim! But all joking aside denim is an integral part of our fashion identity and it’s important not only to get the perfect fit but a style that suits you.

Currently leading the way in the denim stakes are brands like MiH Jeans and J Brand who know how to strike a balance between current trends and high quality denim. And with pastel coloured jeans at the forefront of SS12’s trend list top brands are spinning out candy-coloured collections of denim that are sure to make your eyes water. Here at Please Don’t Tell we are especially loving Iro’s soft denim in spring-friendly colours and MiH Jeans’ strawberry coloured version of the ever-classic ‘Paris’ cut loved by celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Bosworth. But of course if the pastel trend just doesn’t quite do it for you then stick with the ever-chic blue denim which will never go out of fashion and will take you from day to night with ease.
