Jan 2012

It’s coming to that awkward time of the year, that in-between-season time when we’re just not quite sure what to wear. Our wardrobes are full of all the dark, rich colours of A/W but as the days start to get longer and the temperature starts to rise (ever-so-slightly) we’re left in need of a bit of inspiration on how to revive our Winter wardrobes. We reminded you in a previous blog of what’s set to be big this Spring/Summer but Spring isn’t here just yet so what we really need for now is just a few transitional pieces that we can insert into our wardrobes to give it a lighter, brighter look.

Thankfully many trends from the A/W’11 catwalks re-appeared on the S/S’12 catwalks. Total print remains a big trend so hang on to any printed garments, in-particular floral prints and printed trousers as these will take you right through to Spring with ease. Similarly colour-blocking remains a big trend so there is no need to throw away any coloured trousers or tops, they’re a must-have for the Spring and feature heavily in resort ’12 collections such as Carven and MiH.

Some trends haven’t faired quite so well. Jewel tones and Claret are out, replace them with neons and pastels. A slight hint of a neon top or a pastel blouse under a blazer is a great way to break yourself into these trends without having to do a complete wardrobe upheaval. Iro’s resort ’12 collection is full of easy-to-wear day pieces in light pastels¬†making it the perfect transitional collection.

Another big trend that is set to leave us in the Spring is the androgynous trend. It’s being replaced with ultra femininity but don’t banish your boyish clothes just yet. Contrast your boxy blazer with a feminine blouse or your boyish loafers with a flowing skirt. The key is to buy a few pieces that will inter-link with what you already have creating a transitional wardrobe that will keep you warm AND up-to-date.
